Magnetic Sleep Tapes, Vol. II sees Five The Hierophant taking a left turn from the heavier doom metal oriented sound of their debut full length Over Phlegethon. Magnetic Sleep Tapes expands upon the experimental nature of the band, built from meditative jam sessions favouring organic instruments. Alongside guitar and bass, the band perform with analogue synthesiser, Tibetan trumpets, zither, bells and an array of unconventional percussive devices that should be left to your own imagination.

Magnetic Sleep Tapes, Vol. II pulls away further from the first volume, diving deeper into hypnotic and sparse landscapes. Each side of this cassette release consists of a 20 minute long untitled piece of music, built on slow lulling clean guitars, chanting vocals, bass drones, unsettling rattling percussion, found sounds and samples. The experience is otherworldly, hypnotic and surreal... A perfect experience for listening on headphones on a dark rainy night, taking the listener away to an endless winter forest, or perhaps a deep, dark dungeon, or even an endless black void... This is the soundtrack to your bleakest subconscious thoughts.

never been a big death metal fan but this is actually super accessible for the genre, has fun concepts, and personally i'm always a fan of albums with short tracklists and huge runtimes (for individual songs) Great time, good jumping on point for newbies too. alienasu
